Paint Carving

Contemporary hand carved artworks.

Carving Paint

Watch this short clip of my process.

I layer acrylic paint 40-70 layers thick onto wooden panels and carve the paint. Not the wood.

I carve the paint to reveal my design in the different layers of colors I have brushed on over weeks of preparation for a single artwork.

I carve paint

Desert inspired art.

Vibrant colors and deep cuts into the acrylic paint reveal my favorite desert plants and creatures

with as much texture and depth as I can give them.

Currently Accepting Commissions

My collections sell out fast and I am so grateful for that. If you would like an original carved artwork sometimes the easiest way to get one is to commission it. View my commission page to find out more.

Hand Crafted

Original Block Prints

Block printing is an ancient technique of carving a design into a block and pressing the inked block by hand onto paper.

 Thanks for visiting my work,

i’m Brit Hansen

I live in the Painted Desert region of Northern Arizona and find my inspiration from the colors and life and the desert. My husband and I built our home with our own hands in 2020 and are so happy being full time artists.

I have two beautiful children and love to create artworks I can envision in happy homes like mine. I want my art to help others achieve a space where they feel comfort, peace and joy. I understand how artwork can transform a space into a home and make it feel like you.

For more of my story and how I became an artist you can read my about page.

Design It.

I always start by planning my color palette. It helps me design all the artworks from a collection knowing what colors I am excited to work with. I also need to plan how I will layer my paint and what texture I am going to incorporate in the designs.

Carve it.

Sometimes I already have the design drawn up and sometimes it’s just in my head and I sketch it out onto the painted panel before I start carving. I am more confident with a carving tool in my hand than a pencil.
